Miss May 75D was the answer to a Prayer
By Mary G Stelly

On Christmas night of 1989, our stable of eleven Thoroughbreds and Quarter Horses, which we were racing at the time, burned to the ground. My husband, Herb and our daughter Yvette were both burned trying to get the horses out of the stables. They were able to save only two of the horses.
It was the most emotionally upsetting time of our lives as these horses had all been raised on our farm and were our beloved pets. The fire took our entire racing string and our two yearlings.

When I looked into the eyes of my husband and daughter I saw such sorrow that I turned my hands up and asked, “Dear lord if it be your will, please give us something better.” God has a wonderful sense of humor because he gave us cows!

We had a young Piedmontese bull named Macho 14D, which we purchased from a local man who dealt in cattle. He was such a nice young bull with a very good temperament; we decided to buy a cow.

We learned of a fullblood sale in Fort Worth, Texas and made plane reservations to attend the sale. We arrived fifteen minutes before the sale and shopped fast. We saw Miss May 75D and Miss May 73D both of which were yearlings. Judging them on our race horse experience we decided these two were what we wanted.

We purchased both and were told by the manager of the farm that they were entered in the Houston Livestock show in three weeks, and we could pick them up there. Having made no plans for shipment, this was a perfect solution.

Miss May 75D was named Reserve Grand Champion of the Houston Livestock Show, and the rest is history. She went on to be a 6 time Grand Champion, a four time National Grand Champion, and the breeds leading dam.

She is the #1 leading dam and received 34 points toward her Gold Trophy in the first show in which her calves competed. She is the dam of only fourteen calves (nine of which were shown). Every one of her calves which participated in shows has been Grand or Reserve Grand Champion or a division champion.

As one judge once stated, “she is perfect from her feet up,” and she passed her perfect conformation to all of her calves and to her grand babies.

No other female can compare with this great female. Most cows take years, and many embryo calves to get a Gold Trophy, which Miss May 75D got in two shows. She sits at the top of the list with 525+ points and is dam to only only fourteen calves! She was truly a miracle.

As they say “the lord giveth and the lord taketh away, during a storm, a tree was uprooted and fell on Miss May 75D damaging her backbone and she had to be destroyed. We felt no regret as God had helped us through a very difficult time. We thank him for all the wonderful friends and the unbelievable times we experienced in the Piedmontese business. These people will always be in our hearts and minds we love you all and hope you are blessed as well.
