will again be managed by Dr. Giuseppe Sampieri of Kentucky.

: A variety of new Italian Piedmontese AI sires have been qualified for semen export, so there are numerous new bulls to select from. The Italian Association ANABORAPI now confirms that all AI sires available are test verified as being homozygous (2-copy) for the unique Piedmontese-specific myostatin variant C313Y.

Important Update
: the Italian AI sire named UBUNTU - registry # IT001990752285 - whose semen has been imported into the USA in previous importations - has been confirmed by DNA testing in both the USA and Italy to be heterozygous (1-copy) for the Piedmontese-specific inactive myostatin gene variant C313Y - meaning he will only pass the necessary gene to 50% of his offspring. This is the first and only known case of an Italian Piedmontese AI sire failing to be homozygous (2-copy) for the gene. ANABORAPI assures us that all other available AI sires are test verified as 2-copy for the C313Y inactive myostatin gene. North American producers who may have used UBUNTU semen are advised to DNA-test all offspring, which may then be eligible for registration (if they are 2-copy for C313Y) or for recordation (if they are 1-copy) in the Naturalean Piedmontese Herdbook.
PLEASE NOTE: Any other Italian AI sires which carry UBUNTU in their pedigree, with offspring that apply for registry with NAPA, shall be eligible for the NATURALEAN division of registration only
